The wish to become a sculptor came rather unexpectedly to her. Born to a family of intelligentsia, as they used to say, and having graduated from an ordinary school, she decided that she would apply to a medical college. To make this possible, Margarita got a nursery job at a local hospital. But then she changed her mind and applied to the Moscow University of Service, the Arts and Crafts Department. Her choice was the ceramics faculty, and she made it to the university.

«It was pretty difficult in the beginning, Margarita recalls, and now I understand why. I hadn’t any art school as a background; I had no experience and no ideas.
A very popular ceramist saw me suffering as I tried to find my style and he decided to help me. He said: «For how long will you be torturing yourself? Simplicity and tradition is all that you need now. All you need to be able to do now is to draw and to sculpture. Study the natural things. And don’t be shy to bug your teachers if you don’t understand, copy the great artists».
